About

Blackburg is a magazine about interesting things happening in the world, reported by people who are actually there. Its name combines our names into an invented editorial place: a home for correspondents, curiosity and first-hand discovery.

Our writers are a network of friends and local correspondents, including ourselves, across Europe and—where the story takes us—beyond. They bring personal knowledge of their places, speak to the people involved and notice what cannot be learned from a desk or generated from second-hand information.

The point is not simply to publish personal essays. Personality is how a writer enters a story; observation, curiosity and reporting are what earn the reader’s attention. Blackburg follows politics, science, art, nature, technology, history, business and philosophy whenever something genuinely interesting, important, beautiful, strange or intellectually exciting deserves a closer look.

Our editorial principle is simple: Go and see. Before commissioning a story, we ask whether someone can visit the place, meet the people or examine the work for themselves. If the answer is yes, it may be a Blackburg story. If we would only be summarising what others reported yesterday, it probably is not.

AI can help behind the scenes—finding leads, preparing research, translating material, transcribing interviews, investigating data and editing copy. But the essential act remains human: someone goes out into the world and returns with something the internet alone could not provide.

We publish Reports from the field, Conversations with genuinely interesting people, Ideas that deserve sustained thought, and Dispatches: shorter observations that give our network—and Blackburg—its pulse.

Go and see.
